Welcome

Annual Meeting of Plant Research funded by BMBF 2024 (PLANT 2030 Status Seminar)

A warm welcome to the annual meeting of plant research initiatives funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The conference takes place in Potsdam on March 6-8, 2024.

The meeting comprises three days of exciting scientific exchange on applied plant research. The agenda includes keynote lectures, project presentations as talks, posters and videos, an elevator pitch session and a workshop dedicated to all early stage scientists.

Please check the agenda below or the conference program for more information.

Registration

The registration is open now.

The registration fee is € 395 until January 12, 2024, later on € 440.

You will need to log in / create a user account to be able to enroll for the meeting.

Please check in the last section of this page whether you are eligible to attend.

Presenter instructions

Every project consortium of ongoing and new funding initiatives has to be represented by an oral presentation. Every sub-project should be represented by a poster.

Please find detailed instructions for abstract submission and the presentation of talks, posters and poster videos in the presenter instructions section.

Important deadlines

January 12, 2024: Early bird registration

January 22, 2024: Room contingent ends at the conference hotel.

March 1, 2024: Submission of elevator pitch presentations.

March 5, 2024: Poster PDF and video submission

Agenda

Keynotes

The keynote lectures will complement the meeting, giving overview and insights into cutting-edge plant research and stimulating fruitful discussions.

  • Cathie Martin, John Innes Centre Norwich; Topic: Healthy Plants & Healthy People
  • Raphaël Mercier, Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research; Topic: Epigenetic Mechanisms Within Meiosis

The keynotes section provides more detailed inforation on the speakers an lectures.

Plenary sessions

The oral project presentations cover a broad range of topics related to applied plant sciences. The project consortia funded by the BMBF will present their latest progress and outline the work planned in the thematic sessions:

  • Biomass & Content
  • Biodiversity & Omics für Breeding
  • Traits & Mechanisms
  • Double Haploids & Hybrid breeding
  • Pest Protection
  • Data Tools & Gebetic Resources

Poster sessions & videos

Poster presentation is a key element of the project evaluation and the chance for all scientists to meet your colleagues and discuss the work done within the sub-projects. Posters are displayed throughout the whole meeting and there is time for discussions in the poster session on March 7 and during all coffee breaks.

Additionally, all poster presenters may upload a poster video to increase the outreach of their work.

Elevator Pitch & Awards

The elevator pitch will be a teaser for the following poster session. Young researchers are encouraged to present their work in a condensed, clear and creative way in only two minutes.

Presenters should be PhD-students or Postdocs. The presentation should focus on the main idea or result of a poster presented within the poster session.

Up to three presentations will be selected by the audience for an award of 500 €, kindly provided by GFPi.

Who may participate at the conference?

The Annual Meeting of Plant Research funded by BMBF is an internal conference and is not open to the public. Therefore, please check if you are eligible for attending the conference.

Attendance of principal investigators and further scientists

Each principal investigator (PI) of ongoing PLANT 2030 and related projects has to participate and present the progress made in the respective projects. If you are not able to attend the seminar personally you must find a substitute.

Each project consortium of the following research initiatives is represented at the conference:

  • Plant Breeding Research for the Bioeconomy III
  • Epigenetics – Chances for Plant Research
  • Bioeconomy International (selected plant science projects: InFuProts, PrimACoP, LiMEDisc, FISBea, Advantage, FortressWheat, TEOSINTE)
  • KMU-innovative (selected plant science projects: PHYTOFLOW, EKO-YAM)

Scientists (Postdocs, PhD-students etc.) involved in the abovementioned PLANT 2030 and related projects are welcome to attend the seminar. They are strongly encouraged to present their work on a poster.

Members of other related and former programs are also welcome to join the seminar. These include de.NBI, DPPN, DataPlant, and BoNaRes projects as well as finished projects of Crops of the Future, IPAS, Plant Breeding Research for the Bioeconomy I-II, Plant Biotechnology for the Future, PLANT-KBBE, AgroClustEr, GlobE and BioEnergie 2021, to mention a few. Participants are invited to actively take part in the seminar. Poster presentations on the further results of these projects are highly appreciated.

Guests

Under certain circumstances interested guests may also participate. However, this has to be approved by the PLANT 2030 Managing Office for public partners and the Gemeinschaft zur Förderung von Pflanzeninnovation e.V. (GFPi) for private partners. If you are not sure if you are allowed to register, please contact the PLANT 2030 Managing Office (info@statusseminar.de).
